The rockfall barriers, as outlined by the EOTA – ETAG 027 guidelines, are made of one or more identical functional modules placed sequentially, allowing the rockfall barrier to adapt to the necessary length for protection of people and/or infrastructures below. The assembled systems are classified according to the level of kinetic energy which the rockfall barrier is able to absorb, considering both the Service Energy Level (SEL) and the Maximum Energy Level (MEL).
